Parish Birthdays – Happy Birthday to Egbert Scott & Robert Dungey

Today at St Bart’s we welcome Dr Frederick Nye, Reader Emeritus in the parish of St Faith, Great Crosby as our guest preacher.

Midweek Eucharist Services will recommence this week – Weds 10am St Ed’s & 6.30pm at St Mary’s and Thurs 12.30pm at St Bart’s.

Kaz - Quintin visited Kaz last week in hospital and he’s much improved and is eating again. Kaz and Brenda very much appreciate your cards, thoughts and prayers, but wish to stress that Kaz is not strong enough for visitors at the moment. We’ll keep you updated on his condition through the newsletter.

Norman Lipman Quintin visited Norman last week and he is much the same as his last visit. Please keep Norman in your prayers.

St Mary’s Big thank you to Rolandas for mending the window shutter that was broken during a recent attempted break in – it’s a lovely piece of work.

Action against the Arms Fair join the action to stop the arms fair at London’s Docklands (2-13 Sept). This is where those who profit from war, repression and injustice do business. Included in the week of action is a procession from Ascension Church, Baxter Road on Tuesday 3 September beginning at 9.15 am. Bishop Peter Hill and Bishop Roger Morris will be joining this procession.

Parish Barn Dance this coming Saturday from 7pm to 10pm at St Bart’s – £10. If you’ve still not got your ticket, then please see Claudette at St Mary’s or Irene at St Bart’s or the Parish office for tickets. Last few tickets remaining !!

Ordination of Marco Lopes to the Diaconate – We have not had sufficient interest in a coach for this event. However, a number of people will be going by car and the journey is straight forward by train.

Sunday 15th September will be Marco’s first Eucharist in the Parish as a Deacon and so it will be a joint service at St Bart’s. All are welcome.

Quiet Day this year the Parish quiet day will be on Saturday 14th September at Haggerston. Please see the sign-up sheets at the back of church if you are interested in attending.

The Sultan and the Saint film show on Saturday 21 September at St Bart’s at 3.30pm. 2019 is the 800th anniversary of St Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt meeting unarmed on one of the bloodiest battlefields of the crusades to try to find common ground and prevent a humanitarian disaster. This film show, organized jointly with some of our local friends from the local mosque, will be followed by food and a conversation about what we can learn from these two men of faith for today’s world. All welcome.
