Lessons from Pilgrimages
We have been on 2 pilgrimages in the last month.
The first with Rob to the Holy Land. To find Jesus? NO.
If you need a reminder - he is RISEN.
Our second pilgrimage was to Bradwell, the seventh century chapel where St Cedd brought the gospel to Essex.
Pauline from St Paul’s and myself were reminiscing and in a blind step of faith we agreed to organise a coach. We eventually gathered folks from 8 local churches. This was done through one contact in each church, so we had little idea of who would join us on the day.
At Bradwell we joined about 1-2000 Christians from Newham,
Essex and visitors from Sweden and Kenya.
So what did the experience of travelling with strangers teach us? Facing challenges you hadn’t foreseen and discovering vulnerabilities and strengths in them and yourself. Supporting and depending on each other to work through them. Gaining courage that together and with God’s help we need fear nothing.
(At the end of the Bradwell pilgrimage, hot, tired and with no loos we found ourselves waiting in the wilderness for a coach which finally arrived an hour late. For a while we had no way of knowing whether the coach was coming or not, until we found a number.)
A lesson in faith: ‘Hoping for what we do not yet have?’
Lessons for now? As fellow Christians we are about to join forces with St Edmunds Church on a journey of Faith. Not strangers to some of us, but we have no idea of what lies ahead. But Lord give us the courage to be like the disciples, dispel all fear, uncertainty and doubt and say a wholehearted YES and together help to further the Kingdom.

10.00am St Mary’s Ann is Celebrant, Quintin is Deacon & John is Speaker.

Extraordinary Parish Meeting In the absence of a Parish Treasurer we continue to do what we can to manage the financial affairs of our parish. The audited accounts for 2013 are now available for inspection. All members of the congregation are invited to attend an Extraordinary Parish Meeting on Sunday 27th July at 12noon at St Mary’s Church Hall. Copies of the accounts are available from the parish office. They are displayed in both churches. As we have no treasurer, any questions about the accounts should be submitted in advance so that we can glean the necessary answers from our volunteer book keeper and/or the diocesan parish giving officer. There is one item on the agenda on this day but we must formally receive and accept the accounts.
