Christian Aid The grand total collected for Christian Aid this year is £670. Many thanks to all for their donations, and special thanks to Alison for co-ordinating the events.

Baptism at St Mary’s Next week we will welcome the family and friends of Daniel Grey who is to be baptised. Please pray for him and his family as they prepare for their special day.

Thy Kingdom Come the 9 days between Ascension and Pentecost are being designated as a time of prayer for the renewal of the church. There is a prayer booklet for everyone in the parish, please take it away with you to use for your private prayer perhaps committing to saying the office of daily prayer or praying for 5 friends. There is also a programme of public events around the churches in East Ham to which everyone is welcome.

National Pilgrimage to the Holy Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham

The coach will leave St Edmunds at 8 a.m. and will collect at St Bart’s next followed by St Mary’s. It’s recommended that you be at your chosen collection point by around 8 a.m.

Eden Plaistow is turning 5 years old and to celebrate their 5 years in Plaistow they’re throwing a Scavenger Hunt and Birthday Party. Join them on: June 3rd, 10am-1pm at Cornerstone Café, Plaistow.

Study Day 8th June Renewing the Parish practical workshop led by Very Rev. Peter Bradley, the Dean of Sheffield and Rev. Christopher Woods, Vicar of St Anne Hoxton. We hope to have a good turnout for this. Cost is £7.50 including lunch. Please book in the café or the office.

Support and Fellowship for Office Holders, Wardens and Treasurers in Newham, Saturday 10th June 2017, St John’s Church Stratford, 10.00 am-3.00pm

The aim of the day is to offer some training and support for lay office holders, Wardens and Treasurers, in Newham Deanery. It will be an opportunity to meet with the Bishop of Barking, Area Dean and Lay chair. Are you joining the PCC for the first time? Taking on a new role for the church? Trinity Sunday 11th June, Patronal feast for the whole parish. Joint parish Eucharist at ST BART’s (note change of venue to an event at St. Edmund’s on the previous day), preacher Canon Dr Edward Carter, Canon Theologian at Chelmsford Cathedral.

Corpus Christi Thursday 15th June, mass at 7.30 pm in the Rectory garden (weather permitting) followed by a party ! Eucharist will include anointing of our Eucharistic ministers. All welcome. There is a wet weather plan B ! There will be no 12.30 Eucharist at St Bart’s that day.

Parish Outing This is booked for 17 June to Bury St Edmunds. Cost is £20 per adult, £5 children. Please book through the office.

Picturing the Parish The study day in September will look at St Matthew’s gospel through the lens of urban settings. We have been asked to take a series of photographs that express what it’s like to live in East Ham. If you’d like to get your camera out and have a go, that would be great, we can probably manage to print your photos in the office.


Deanery Synod will be 7th June – this is a change of date.

PCC Meeting will be this week on 31st May 2017 at St Edmunds at 7.30. Papers will be available on Tuesday – apologies for the delay.  

St Bart’s DCC meeting is 9th July at 11.45 am in the Luke Room.

St Mary’s DCC meeting is 6 September at 7.30 am in the Parish room

St Edmunds’s DCC is 28th June at 7.30 pm.

Chaplain of Brasenose College The historic patron of the parish. The new Chaplain of Brasenose College is the Rev Julia Baldwin. Please keep her in your prayers as she prepares for her new role in September. Julia and Sue know one another well, and have begun to talk about continuing and deepening our links.

Advanced warning At the DCC on Wednesday we agreed a clear up day at St Mary’s on the Patronal festival weekend, Saturday 22nd July.

Café News

Cake sale Many thanks to all who supported the cake sale. We are awaiting confirmation from CYANA of the amount raised.

Quiz night on 29th June at 7.30 pm. Tickets are £7.50 and includes a two-course supper. Please book in the café or Parish Office.
