St Mary’s Once again thanks to Alison for organizing the Tea Dance for Christian Aid last weekend. Also thanks to Colin and Jean for decorating the hall and to June for the excellent refreshments. We are still counting the proceeds and will let you know a final total of how much was raised next week.

Advanced warning At the DCC on Wednesday we agreed a clear up day at St Mary’s on the Patronal festival weekend, Saturday 22nd July.

London Marathon Many thanks to everyone who sponsored me, The total sum raised for Richard House Hospice was a little over £1,400. I was very pleased with this but less so with my time, 5 hours 22 mins. I got cramp at mile 18, after which the final 8 miles were pretty slow and slightly uncomfortable – Derek James.

Thy Kingdom Come the 9 days between Ascension and Pentecost are being designated as a time of prayer for the renewal of the church. There is a prayer booklet for everyone in the parish, please take it away with you to use for your private prayer perhaps committing to saying the office of daily prayer or praying for 5 friends. There is also a programme of public events around the churches in East Ham to which everyone is welcome.

Ascension day Thursday 25th May at St Bartholomew’s 12 noon, contemplative prayer with prayer stations leading into Eucharist of the day at 12.30. St Mary’s Ascension day Eucharist is on Wednesday 24th May at 6.30 pm.

National Pilgrimage to the Holy Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham

The Annual Anglican National Pilgrimage to Walsingham takes place on Monday 29th May 2017. Full payment of £20 needs to be made by Sunday 20th May.

Eden Plaistow is turning 5 years old and to celebrate their 5 years in Plaistow they’re throwing a Scavenger Hunt and Birthday Party. Join them on: June 3rd, 10am-1pm at Cornerstone Café, Plaistow.

Study Day 8th June Renewing the Parish practical workshop led by Very Rev. Peter Bradley, the Dean of Sheffield and Rev. Christopher Woods, Vicar of St Anne Hoxton. We hope to have a good turnout for this. Cost is £7.50 including lunch. Please book in the café or the office.

Trinity Sunday 11th June, Patronal feast for the whole parish. Joint parish Eucharist at St Edmund’s, preacher Canon Dr Edward Carter, Canon Theologian at Chelmsford Cathedral.

Corpus Christi Thursday 15th June, mass at 7.30 pm in the Rectory garden (weather permitting) followed by a party ! Eucharist will include anointing of our Eucharistic ministers. All welcome. There is a wet weather plan B ! There will be no 12.30 Eucharist at St Bart’s that day.

Parish Outing This is booked for 17 June to Bury St Edmunds. Cost is £20 per adult, £5 children. Please book through the office.

Picturing the Parish The study day in September will look at St Matthew’s gospel through the lens of urban settings. We have been asked to take a series of photographs that express what it’s like to live in East Ham. If you’d like to get your camera out and have a go, that would be great, we can probably manage to print your photos in the office.

Deanery Synod will be 7th June – this is a change of date.

PCC Meeting will be on 31st May 2017 at St Edmunds at 7.30.  

St Bart’s DCC meeting is 9th July at 11.45 am in the Luke Room.

St Bart’s Informal Prayer Group

Our next prayer group will be on Sunday 21st May in the chapel after our service. After feedback from our last session there will be an opportunity to join others in prayer, light a candle for a private prayer and we will pray through the prayer cards.

If you are unable to join us for the session, but have a prayer request, please either pin it on the prayer board or tell Shirley.

Poetry Group On Tuesday at 10.30 the café will see it’s inaugural meeting of it’s newly formed Poetry Group. All welcome.

The Archdeacon's Visitation Service this year is at All Saints Woodford Wells this Wednesday 10th May at 7.30pm (refreshments from 7pm). Wardens (and clergy!) are expected to attend. Wardens please remember to bring certificate/declaration and articles of enquiry. There is a list at the back of each church, please sign if you can either offer a lift or need a lift. There will be no Eucharist at St Mary's just for that evening; thank you for foregoing this for once.

Book Club meets on Monday 8th May at 2 p.m. “Three Men in a Boat” (to say nothing of the dog !) All welcome.

PARISH BIRTHDAYS     HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ella Griffith and David Hayes

Next week, we will welcome Kitty and Connie Sutherland for baptism. Please pray for Christopher and Jody, their parents, as they prepare for the baptisms of their children.

This week could you remember in your prayers the soul of Letty Manley whose funeral will take place this week and Gillian and all the family who are grieving at this time.

Victor and his fiancé are going to have their engagement blessed at the end of the service today. Congratulations to both of them.

The Archdeacon's Visitation Service this year is at All Saints Woodford Wells on Wednesday 10th May at 7.30pm (refreshments from 7pm). Wardens (and clergy!) are expected to attend. It is good too for PCC members to go and all are welcome. Wardens need to bring Certificates of Election and Articles of Enquiry, and Sue needs to sign them. PARISH BIRTHDAYS     HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Caroline Tellis and Ben Davies

Thank you to all who supported St Edmund’s Lent Lunches, we have sent £150 to support the Bishops Lent Appeal.

A big thank you to all who helped make last Sunday so successful. It is always difficult to thank everyone, but I would like to particularly thank Sarah for organizing the East Egg hunt after the service, which the children loved, and also for providing the food and wine. Also, Colin and Jean for the wonderful Easter Garden and all those who helped clean up the Church on Saturday. Finally, Terry Hooker for “sponsoring” the hot cross buns. Quintin.

Thank you to the St Bart’s café team for another great quiz night and supper ! Watch out for the next one in June.

Parish Office The office will be closed on Tuesday & Wednesday this week.

ANNUAL MEETINGS (APM & APCM). This Sunday at St Mary’s, meeting immediately follows the Eucharist. There will be elections for Church and parish wardens, PCC & DCC and Deanery Synod Rep. Consider prayerfully if you are called to stand for any of these roles. This year is Deanery Synod elections and under the new formula agreed by the Diocesan Synod we have 3 vacancies for Deanery Synod Reps.

Christian Aid Tea Dance Saturday 13th May from 3 – 5 p.m. at St Mary’s Hall. Tickets are £7 (Children under 12 are £3) and are available in advance from Shirley Biro at St Bart’s, Ed Williamson at St Edmund’s and Alison McLucas at St Mary’s.

Come along and dance or just enjoy the entertainment ! Sandwiches, cake and tea or coffee are included.

Parish Outing This is booked for 17 June to Bury St Edmunds. Cost is £20 per adult, £5 concessions. Please book through the office.

PCC and DCC DATES.

There will be a brief PCC meeting immediately following the annual meetings to elect officers and the first PCC meeting after that will be 7th June, venue to be confirmed. St Bart’s next DCC has been moved to Sunday 7th May 11.45am in the Luke Room.

St Mary’s DCC is 24th June at 7.30.

St Edmunds’s DCC is 28th June at 7.30.

St Bart’s Informal Prayer Group

If you are unable to join us for the session, but have a prayer request, please either pin it on the prayer board or hand it to Shirley or any other member of the group. We have a busy few weeks, so date and time of the next session is to be confirmed. Watch this space !

Picturing the Parish The study day in September will look at St Matthew’s gospel through the lens of urban settings. We have been asked to take a series of photographs that express what it’s like to live in East Ham. If you’d like to get your camera out and have a go, that would be great, we can probably manage to print your photos in the office.
