St Mary Magdalene † St Bartholomew † St Alban †
“For many are called, but few are chosen”. Matthew 22:14
Dearly Beloved, this is my first Front-Page message. I waited for the longest time before I was furnished with news of a Title Post in East Ham, many of my colleagues at Westcott House have over the summer confirmed their placement and this was a subject of open discussion when the term began in September 2012.
My anxiety changed to good news on the 23rd November 2012, when I met with Rob, Quintin and Ann, about the possibility of a Title Post in the Parish of East Ham. I must admit that I was nervous, but the pastoral skills of the three together immediately put me at ease. Quintin and Ann satisfied that they knew me well and have for the past thirteen years watched or are in possession of the video from the Passion Play from the year 2000, I was a familiar face having played Jesus in the parish play, a great delight and joy resulting in mission within the Church of England.
I feel that there is little need to introduce myself; I am the son of the parish that has simply returned to serve and pay my dues to society. I am grateful to serve my curacy here and I look forward to a time of blessing, encouragement and sharing. I trust that we would grow in unity as we serve and nurture the parish in the strength of the Lord. Amen.
More grace more power

Need for Financial Help
In recent months we have been looking urgently for someone with significant accounting and financial skills to come forward to assist the clergy team, PCC and individual treasurers with financial planning. The honorary job title would be parish treasurer but the job, in current times, is wider than that. We need to budget to pay our diocesan contribution better, gain maximum from our cash in hand and plan for a rainy day. If there is anyone with this skill who feels that they could spare the time to take on this hugely significant role in the life of the whole parish please see Quintin or Rob as soon as you can.
Bart's Café: Thanks to everyone who continues to support the Cafe at Bart's. You may also have noticed that Allan is now also offering freshly made pancakes outside of the church on a daily basis. Watch out for summer specials!
Holy Land There has been some good initial interest in our plans to organise a pilgrimage to the Holy Land a year from now from the parish. Those who attended the launch at the Rectory were keen to know more and many others have requested a brochure. A deposit secures your room.
Please pick up a brochure in church and if you have any questions do ask Rob
Young People TODAY at 1130 we will be meeting at Bart's to discuss how we move forward in developing our work with the very young children, the children of Sunday School age, and the early teenagers. All those already working in this area and those who can offer help, advice and encouragement are invited to attend. There will be coffee and danish pastries after Eucharists at Bart's and St Mary Magdalene for those attending.
St Paul's East Ham are hosting one of the three deanery confirmations in Newham during September and we already have one adult candidate who is ready to be confirmed at this service. Adults who are already fully involved in the life and worship of our churches who are desirous of being confirmed should have a word with the clergy and we can tailor a programme of reading and preparation to prepare you. Next year there will be adult confirmation classes arranged from Lent onwards. If you wish to take this important step please contact any member of the clergy team
